Depression and cardiovascular disease: Healing the broken-hearted

Article Abstract:

The importance of major depression in patients with cardiovascular disease is evaluated and practical guidelines are provided for identifying and treating this disorder. It is seen that antidepressant treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors is generally safe, alleviates depression and improves quality of life and also lessens risk of coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction.

Influence of patients' requests for direct-to-consumer advertised antidepressants

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to ascertain the effect of patients' direct-to-consumer (DTC)-related requests on physicians' initial treatment decisions in patients with depressive symptoms. The conclusions showed that the patients' request have a profound effect on physician prescribing in major depression and adjustment disorder.
