Desertification called global health threat

Article Abstract:

The United Nations (UN), in an effort to draw attention to the increasing degradation of the earth's fragile ecosystems, declared 2006 the International Year of Deserts and Desertification. Such degradation can cause mass migration, famine, massive dust storms, and political instability. The UN will work to raise awareness of the problems caused by this phenomenon and encourage local governments to take steps to protect and restore dry lands by implementing land management strategies.

Syphilis rates rise among men

A report in 2004 revealed that an increase in high-risk sexual behavior among men who have sex with men might be the cause of a steady rise in syphilis rates among men.
