Diagnostic performance of digital versus film mammography for breast-cancer screening

Article Abstract:

The use of digital mammography that would avoid some of the limitations of film mammography of limited sensitivity for the detection of breast cancer in women with radiographically dense breasts is assessed. The results reveal that digital mammography is significantly better than conventional film mammography at detecting breast cancer in young women, premenopausal and perimenopausal women, and women with dense breasts.

MRI evaluation of the contralateral breast in women with recently diagnosed breast cancer

Article Abstract:

A study seeks to determine whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can improve on clinical breast examination and mammography in detecting contralateral breast cancer soon after the initial diagnosis of unilateral breast cancer. Results show that MRI can detect cancer in the contralateral breast that is missed by mammography and clinical examination at the time of the initial breast-cancer diagnosis.

Magnetic resonance imaging of the breast prior to biopsy

Article Abstract:

The study aims to determine the accuracy of breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in conjunction with mammography for the detection of breast cancer in patients with suspicious mammographic or clinical findings. It concluded that breast MRI high sensitivity but only moderate specificity independent of breast density, tumor type, and menopausal status.
