Double-blind intervention trial on modulation of ozone effects on pulmonary function by antioxidant supplements

Article Abstract:

The role of antioxidant vitamin supplements in altering acute effects of ozone on lung function has been studied in 38 bicyclists in the Netherlands. They were tested on 10 occasions, with one group given 100 mg of Vitamin E and 500 mg of Vitamin C for 15 weeks and the other group given a placebo. The differences in ozone effect on lung function were statistically significant, and it appears that the antioxidant vitamins given offer some protection against acute effects of ozone on (forced expiratory volume)/second.

Use of antioxidant supplements and its association with cognitive function in a rural elderly cohort: the MoVIES Project

Taking antioxidants may not be associated with cognitive function in an older rural population. According to the results of a battery of neuropsychological tests, cognition did not vary significantly between 1,059 elderly antioxidant users and non-users in Pennsylvania. Women and those with a higher education were using antioxidants more frequently.
