Effect of diet on glucose tolerance 36 hours after glycogen-depleting exercise

Article Abstract:

A study was done on eight healthy male subjects to measure the effect of muscle glycogen depletion on glucose tolerance. Results show that a low-carbohydrate high-fat diet exerts a strong inhibitory effect on glucose tolerance and prevents testing for the effect of muscle glycogen content. However, the study showed that the free fatty acid/glucose interrelationship may cover up exerciseinduced changes in insulin-stimulated glucose uptake.
