Environmental exposures, toxicologic mechanisms, and adverse pregnancy outcomes

Article Abstract:

The associations between certain environmental exposures and reproductive outcomes through a discussion of both epidemiologic and animal model studies are described. Several models for environmental risk factors are suggested to increase the understanding of gene-environment interactions toward the goal of indentifying preventable risk factors to improve reproductive outcomes of particular concern to disadvantaged populations.

Overview of current state of research on pregnancy outcomes in minority populations

Article Abstract:

Pregnancy outcomes have improved over the 20th century in the United States but women vary widely from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. There is variability within subgroups of women and this disparity is due to underlying differences in health before pregnancy, differences in community norms, and individual lifestyle choices and to differences in health care delivery systems.
