Epidermal immunization by a needle-free powder delivery technology: immunogenicity of influenza vaccine and protection in mice

Article Abstract:

A technique for immunization through skin, epidermal powder immunization, is described. It effectively delivers the vaccine to the epidermis of the skin by means of an helium-powered, needle-free PowderJect system. The technique is tested in a mouse model against influenza vaccine.

Transcutaneous immunization: a human vaccine delivery strategy using a patch

Article Abstract:

Research is presented on the delivery of a topical vaccine to humans, providing the benefits of needle-free delivery while utilizing the skin's immunologically rich environment. The application of heat-labile enterotoxin (LT) derived from Escherichia coli is used as an example, which resulted in robust LT-antibody responses.

Can needle-free administration of vaccines become the norm in global immunization?

Article Abstract:

This article examines the desirability of administering vaccines without the use of needles and syringes and discusses the status of the technologies with respect to vaccines delivered orally, through mucosoal surfaces, nasal, in the form of aerosols, through the skin, and transcutaneous administration. The barriers with each of the above alternatives are presented.
