European Union research policy and funding for Alzheimer disease

Article Abstract:

Resources made available through research programs of the European Union (EU) on Alzheimer disease have doubled in Framework Program 6 (FP6) considering the challenges ahead and the necessity to support research on neurodegenerative diseases in general and Alzheimer's in particular. The approximate total funding of euro 40million and euro 20million for fiscal 2006 and 2005 respectively, is spread over 4 years each, and this represents only 5% of the total amount of public money spent on research in Europe.
