Everybody's business

Article Abstract:

Quality assurance and the standard-setting process in nursing allows nurses to improve their level of patient care, therefore raising morale among the staff. Nurses want to improve patient care and specify resources which are required, so standard-setting allows them to make changes themselves. Standard-setting and QA have an important role in applications for National Health Service (NHS) trust status, and will remain a high priority within NHS management. The teaching of the Dynamic Standard Setting System is also discussed.

Stress and clinical supervision in mental health care

Article Abstract:

Working with clients with long term mental illness is stressful for mental health nurses. A continuing care team was developed at Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust, backed by clinical supervision, which aimed to provide support and advice to nursing staff. The group aimed to promote case discussions and determine strategies for interventions. One supervisor was given the role of group facilitator and the other was responsible for evaluation data.
