FDA approves ultrasound fibroid therapy

Article Abstract:

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first noninvasive, potentially ablative therapy for uterine fibroids, called the ExAblate 2000 System that is the combination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound technology that offers selected patients a less invasive alternative to surgery. The treatment is an outpatient procedure with shorter recovery time and benefits women who report symptoms associated with fibroid bulk, back and bladder pressure.

Patterns of care for adults with newly diagnosed malignant glioma

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to provide benchmark data to enable comparison of individual practice patterns and outcomes among North American patients with malignant glioma. The database provides a unique opportunity to describe clinical presentation in a modern population of malignant glioma patients, allows analysis of current community practice patterns and delineates the areas that should be considered for evaluation and research in patients.

Cost-effectiveness of screening BRCA1/2 mutation carriers with breast magnetic resonance imaging

Article Abstract:

A study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of screening BRCA1/2 mutation carriers with mammography plus breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) compared with mammography alone. Results show breast MRI screening is more cost-effective for BRCA1 than BRCA2 mutation carriers, with the cost-effectiveness of adding MRI to mammography varying greatly with age.
