Fraud suspected over incontinence supplies

Article Abstract:

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (IG) has uncovered questionable billing practices that indicates Medicare fraud on the part of a few incontinence equipment suppliers. In 1993, Medicare paid $230 million to the suppliers, $786 per beneficiary, compared to $88 million in 1990, $282 million per beneficiary. A national investigation has been launched to determine the scope of the fraud.

Medicare among top concerns of voters; views differ by age

Article Abstract:

Medicare was a major issue to voters that were 60 years of age or older. It was the most important issue in the 1996 elections according to 29% of those voters aged 60 or more while it was an acknowledged issue to only 8% of those voters aged 30 or younger. The viability of Medicare was an important health care issue to those individuals who took exit polls after the 1996 elections.

CDC encouraging informed decisions on sterilization

Article Abstract:

The US Centers for Disease Control are planning to release a study on the effects of sterilization on women conducted between 1977-93. The health effects include menstrual problems and an increase in the risk of a hysterectomy. The age of the woman when she was sterilized may also cause regret. The final issue was the risk of pregnancy and the failure of the sterlization process.
