Gloves on after AIDS death

Article Abstract:

The UK Navy has promoted a policy of double-gloving for any procedure involving blood-letting, following the infection of a Navy nurse with the HIV virus. The nurse died from AIDS in 1996, having become infected with the HIV virus when she accidentally stabbed herself during a routine blood sampling procedure in 1984. Spokespersons for the Health and Safety Executive and the RCN maintain that double-gloving would not protect a nurse from contacting the HIV virus in an incident of this nature.

Article Abstract:

Many nurses are increasingly leaving the profession, inciting fears that the nursing shortage may be getting even worse. One in three trained nurses leaves the National Health Service, according to the 1991 census. However, an Office of Population Censuses and Surveys report reveals that 70% of leavers could be tempted back into the profession by refresher courses.
