HHMI to improve teaching

The author comments on the announcement of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to spend $20 million on the undergraduate teaching. The scientists interested and involved in the research have been invited to apply for institute's teaching post worth $1 million over 4 years to develop new ways of teaching undergraduates.

The director of the Wellcome Trust discusses the Trust's goals of supporting academic research, strengthening its ties to industry and becoming a global player in funding scientific research. The trust has more than 12 billion pounds sterling in assets and supports 3,000 researchers in 30 countries.

Spending spree to end Canadian `brain drain.'(Prime Minister creates 2,000 research chairs)(News)

Canada's prime minister proposes spending C$300 million to fund 2,000 research chairs in the first three years of the 21st century. The goal is to reverse the exodus of Canadian scientists to the US.
