HIV infection does not affect the performance of noninvasive markers of fibrosis for the diagnosis of hepatitis C virus-related liver disease

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess the diagnostic performance and characteristics of a number of noninvasive markers of hepatic fibrosis in populations of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients with and without HIV infection. It showed that the diagnostic performance of the evaluated noninvasive markers of liver fibrosis is equivalent in HCV/HIV-coinfected and HCV-infected subjects.

Characteristics and presenting complaints of outpatients with undiagnosed HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The utility of selecting patients for HIV testing based on presenting complaints and demographic and behavioral characteristics in an outpatient medical clinic in a resource-poor setting is assessed. It is suggested that this method might provide a cost-effective approach that permits limited screening resources to be spent in a way that maximizes individual and societal benefit.

Surveillance for incident HIV infection: new technology and new opportunities

Article Abstract:

More sensitive HIV tests can detect HIV infection in its very early stages, allowing public health officials to accurately estimate all new cases. This in turn allows officials to focus in HIV incidence rather than HIV prevalence.
