HIV risk perception and prevalence in a program for prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission

Article Abstract:

A test was conducted to determine whether data from voluntary counseling and testing (VCT)/ prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) programs can be used for HIV surveillance. There was a bias to accepting VCT in women with HIV, or risk factors for HIV infection, the former most apparent when there was low coverage.

Effects of lipolysis or heat treatment on HIV-1 provirus in breast milk

Article Abstract:

Boiling breast milk before feeding it to a baby may inactivate the HIV virus. This was the conclusion of a study of four HIV-infected women, which also found that the level of virus in breast milk may not match the level of virus in the woman's blood.
