Overtraining can prevent bodybuilders from reaching their full potential. The factors involved in overtraining vary among individuals and even in the same person over a period of time. A list of the physiological, psychological, immunological and biochemical symptoms of overtraining is included.

Bodybuilders should be cautious about increasing the length and intensity of their workouts. This approach may produce a faster initial gain, but a system that uses periodization to alternate the volume and intensity of training is more effective in the long term.

Run down and out: overtraining and infectious disease

Article Abstract:

Severe and prolonged exercise can damage health by temporarily suppressing the immune system. Immune deficiency has been found in elite athletes in all sports. Low glutamine levels may be part of the cause of the immunological effects of exercise.
