Hazardous alcohol use: A risk factor for non-adherence and lack of suppression in HIV infection

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the independent effect of alcohol and combined effects of drug and alcohol use on antiretroviral (ART) utilization, adherence, and viral suppression in an urban cohort of HIV-infected individuals. The findings suggest that hazardous alcohol use alone and combined with injection drug use (IDU) was associated with decreased ART uptake, adherence, and viral suppression.

Assessment of the association between HIV viral load and CD4 cell count on the occurrence of oropharyngeal candidiasis in HIV-infected patients

Article Abstract:

The impact of viral load and blood CD4 cell count on the occurrence of oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) is examined by using modern exploratory statistical analyses. The results have shown that low viral load distinguishes those not at risk for OPC, whereas high viral load, which also includes a heterogeneous set of predictors for OPC status, has the highest impact on OPC classification.

HIV risk practices among needle exchange users and nonusers in Chicago

Article Abstract:

Associations between needle exchange program (NEP) use and drug injection risk practices are assessed. Regular NEP use is associated with less frequent and lower risk HIV injection risk practices.
