Dramatic rise in medication errors tied to outpatient care

Article Abstract:

The trend toward outpatient care has dramatically increased patient deaths due to medication errors. As hospitals have attempted to cut costs by decreasing the number of inpatient days, medication errors have risen from the resulting decrease in patient oversight. Outpatient care also decreases physicians' ability to spot life-threatening side effects.
