Article Abstract:

Violence is the major cause of injury for workers in the retail and services industries. Violence is also the most expensive based on actual costs in workers' compensation and employee turnover. Workplace violence vary for each type of business. Companies in the retail and services industry are urged to adopt protection plans to minimize costs and promote employee safety. Such plans should be supported by the management staff and employees, and should promote the use of work site analyses, and hazard prevention and control programs.

From bad to good to great: companies buckle down and turn around their safety records

Article Abstract:

Companies which have reformed their safety practices for the better are the most active advocates of industrial safety. This is evident from their activities particularly during the National Safety Month of June. For 1999, the National Safety Council is cooperating with a number of organizations in the development of products, programs and services to enhance workplace safety. MacMillan Bloedel Ltd is one such reformed company which has also proven that management commitment is an essential ingredient of good safety performance.

Companies can use case data to help prevent injuries

Article Abstract:

Business enterprises may find valuable benefit in using computerized employee information to prevent work-related injuries. By carefully analyzing the time, location and apparent causes of previously documented injuries, employers may be able to identify particular trends and predict future occurrences of injuries. By integrating these valuable information with case management, firms may be able to change employees' outlook and attitude towards safety and health.
