High priority

Article Abstract:

A project to set up identification methods of nursing practise to aid selection of funded nursing research has been jointly co-ordinated by the Centre for Policy in Nursing Research (CPNR) and the RCN. The project underlined the need for a greater recognition of nurses at a national level and identified areas of priority such as patient care, interventions by nurses and dealing with chronic disease. The involvement of key stakeholders in determining key issues meant implementation at all levels.

Complementary therapy to fight drug addiction

Article Abstract:

A former psychiatric nurse and drug counsellor describes his visit to New York to gain insight into how the health care system in the US deals with high crack usage. He explains the role of acupuncture in the treatment of cocaine dependence and how it helps patients achieve abstinence, and his belief that the treatment could be offered to substance users in the UK. He helped to set up a project in the UK and notes that the project is already showing positive signs.
