Article Abstract:

An initiative which offers post-operative home nursing care to day surgery patients has been pioneered by David Sellu, consultant surgeon and clinical director of day surgery at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust in London, England. Trials of the home nursing scheme, which involves using a team of specially trained nurses, have proved very successful. Sellu believes that this approach will relieve GPs of the burden of dealing with the problems which day surgery patients often encounter. It also makes it possible to undertake more complex procedures as day surgery.
