How diabetes went to our heads

Article Abstract:

The recent studies point to a new potential link between the regulation of body weight and the control of plasma glucose levels, as controlling the glucose production from the liver can be of great help in the treatment of several diseases. The result shows that the amount of adipose tissues present in a human highly affects the glucose uptake and can also be used to cure diabetes as well as obesity by providing a new link between them.

More neurons, less weight

Article Abstract:

Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) stimulates weight loss and spurs the development of new neurons that help maintain the reduced weight. Further studies are required to identify the reasons for the difference between the old and the new neurons and how long the new neurons will respond to leptin when subjected to the same environment that made the old neurons resistant to leptin.
