How to use object linking and embedding: automating performance improvement reports

Article Abstract:

Compiling performance improvement reports via computer is easier if all report components, such as spreadsheets, graphs, diagrams and text, are kept together in a compound document. Object linking and embedding (OLE) is the process used to accomplish this. Some software suites are fully integrated, allowing documents from one application to be linked and embedded in another with a minimum of user effort. The Copy, Paste, Paste Special, Insert Object and Links commands all facilitate creation of the compound document. If an application lacks OLE capability, Copy and Paste commands must be used to approximate it.

Functional teams lead to joint commission success

Article Abstract:

Using functional teams, Staten Island University Hospital in 1994 prepared for the accreditation survey of its clinical and leadership standards. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations now focuses on the whole organization, so new ways to prepare for the survey process have been developed. Leaders of multidisciplinary teams were on the accreditation committee, not the department heads. Multidisciplinary teams had been formed to deal with functional standards with chairpersons coming from directors and managers of various departments.

How to create a cause and effect diagram

Article Abstract:

Cause and effect diagrams are useful graphical tools for performance improvement. They can be created using a presentation graphics application, object linking and embedding, and word processors, though each have different drawing tools. The creation of a cause and effect template in Microsoft PowerPoint is described. A template is valuable because it can be used for all performance improvement reports by simply changing the text.
