Hyperthermic biology and cancer therapies: A hypothesis for the "Lance Armstrong effect"

Article Abstract:

The high level of therapeutic success with testicular cancer, and the outcome both at the cellular and molecular levels are explained in the context of the 'Lance Armstrong effect', whereby the cycling champion Lance Armstrong was successfully treated for very advanced metastatic testicular cancer. Specific tumor cell hyperthermia, that is, heating cancer cells, in combination with radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy might provide the 'Lance Armstrong effect' for treatment of other cancer types.

Endoscopic ultrasound added to mediastinoscopy for preoperative staging of patients with lung cancer

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the additional value of transesophageal ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) to mediastinoscopy in the preoperative staging of patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Findings suggest that when EUS-FNA is added to mediastinoscopy it improves the preoperative staging of lung cancer.

Dietary phytoestrogens and lung cancer risk

Article Abstract:

The study examines the relationship between dietary intake of phytoestrogens and the risk of lung cancer. The results provide further support for the limited but growing epidemiologic evidence that phytoestrogens are associated with a decrease in risk of lung cancer.
