Lipodystrophic syndromes and hyperlipidemia in a cohort of HIV-1-infected patients receiving triple combination antiretroviral therapy with a protease inhibitor

Article Abstract:

Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors can cause abnormal fat distribution in HIV patients, according to a study of 175 HIV patients. This was thought to occur only in patients who take protease inhibitors.

Impact of HIV-1 genetic diversity on plasma HIV-1 RNA quantification: Usefulness of the Agence Nationale de Recherches sur le SIDA second-generation long terminal repeat-based real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction test

Article Abstract:

Plasma samples from patients infected with HIV-1 is studied with a second generation (G2), long terminal repeat (LTR) - based real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test developed at Necker Hospital, France and its usefulness is compared with commercially available assays. The G2 RT-PCR test is found to be a cost-effective and flexible alternative option to commercial assays.

Imbalance between IL-1 and IL-1 receptor antagonist in the cerebrospinal fluid of HIV-infected patients

Article Abstract:

Some HIV patients have high levels of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) in their cerebrospinal fluid even though they have low levels of interleukin-1. This may be an indication of inflammation in the central nervous system.
