Improving the care of patients with symptoms of depression

Article Abstract:

Nurses outside the mental health profession can help to improve the care of individuals with mild to moderate symptoms and offer advice on where to get help by recognizing the symptoms of depressions. Antidepressants, cognitive therapy, interpersonal therapy and electroconvulsive therapy, along with brief psychological intervention by nurses help in treating major depression.

Improving support information with an integrated CNS service

Article Abstract:

Clinical outcomes guidance highlights that a clinical nurse specialist is a necessary member of the multidisciplinary team within gynaecological oncology. Two clinical nurse specialist posts in gynaecological oncology are developed within the North London Cancer Network and the importance of these roles is discussed along with the results of a patient satisfaction survey.

Improving pain management for patients in a hospital burns unit

Article Abstract:

Nursing and medical staffs are not able to manage pains caused by burns, as they are not confident about prescribing and administering analgesia. An audit of pain management was conducted and changes were implemented. Nurses showed an improvement in prescribing and administering analgesia.
