Improvising in an emergency

Article Abstract:

A family physician in UK who is a member of the British Medical Association (BMA) narrates the devastating experience of bomb explosions in London on 7 July 2005 and the emergency care that he provided the injured. His aim was to get each patient to the right hospital in the right time frame and his function was to triage, prioritize for transport and feed patients into the rescue chain in an orderly fashion.

An aging un-American

Article Abstract:

Physicians treating aging people of modern era are all on a learning curve about aging, as the average human life span continues to increase, requiring continual repositioning and reinvention of developmental markers. Medical language equivocates human aging as it struggles to differentiate aging from disease, healthy aging from unhealthy aging, and optional aging from obligatory aging.

A doctor narrates her experiences while training and treating young Marine recruits at Parris Island Marine training facility in South Carolina. She wonders how many of these youngsters transformed into responsible, disciplined adults because of the training, become 'casualties' of the war.
