Incidence of tuberculin skin test conversion among HIV-infected and -uninfected women: Results of a 6-year study

Article Abstract:

Annual tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) are conducted on initially TST-negative women to define the incidence of TST conversion during a 6-year period and to evaluate the yield of annual testing in an era of declining tuberculosis incidence in the US. The yield of annual skin testing reduced from 1996 to 2002 and the data has indicated that repeating testing after initiation of HIV therapy, regardless of CD4 cell change, is warranted.

Association of serum lipid levels with HIV serostatus, specific antiretroviral agents, and treatment regimens

Article Abstract:

A cross-sectional analysis is used to assess the association of HIV infection and treatment with lipoprotein levels in a cohort of American women of diverse ethnic background. The results have shown that a dyslipidemic pattern is associated with HIV infection itself, is more severe in users of protease inhibitor (PI)-containing highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART), but is not present in women taking non-PI HAART.

Oral glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity are unaffected by HIV infection or antiretroviral therapy in overweight women

Article Abstract:

The frequency of diabetes, prediabetes, and insulin resistance among a subset of participants in the Women's Interagency HIV study (WIHS) is assessed. The results revealed that the frequency of diabetes, prediabetes, or insulin resistance was unrelated to HIV status or antiretroviral treatment.
