Uterine rupture during induced trial of labor among women with previous cesarean delivery

Article Abstract:

An induced labor in a pregnant woman who had a previous cesarean delivery can increase the risk of uterine rupture, according to a study of 2,119 pregnant women who had a previous cesarean and wanted to attempt a vaginal delivery. The risk of uterine rupture was highest in women who received prostaglandin E(sub 2) gel compared to other methods of labor induction.

Vaginal birth after cesarean: to induce or not to induce

Article Abstract:

Inducing labor in women who are attempting a vaginal birth after a previous cesarean may not be successful and may even be dangerous. In a study of 505 pregnant women with a previous cesarean, the vaginal delivery rate was lower in those who were induced. In 7% of the women, the uterine scar from the previous cesarean ruptured.
