Infectious vulvovaginitis: an update

Article Abstract:

Bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, trichomoniasis, and other forms of infectious vulvovaginitis can be treated with drugs, although preventive education is also needed. Vaginitis is typically caused when the vaginal ecosystem is upset due to sexual transmission, pH changes, postmenopausal atrophy, or iatrogenic factors. Symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of each of the three main forms of vulvovaginitis are described, as are physical exam, laboratory assessment, and pharmacotherapy techniques.

What we know about coronary artery disease in women

Article Abstract:

Medical research has historically focused on men but new research efforts have uncovered many gender-specific causes and indicators of coronary artery disease (CAD). Modern research concerning women and CAD has found that the disease kills half of a million women every year and the risk for CAD quadruples in postmenopausal women. Health care providers should consider age and gender factors in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases.

Treating resistant vaginal infections

Article Abstract:

Chronic or recurring vaginal infection, also called resistant vaginitis, is best treated after proper diagnosis. The most common type is recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis, which generalists can treat. Trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis are also commonly treated by generalists. Control or cure is usually possible with proper diagnosis, although more obscure types of resistant vaginitis may need treatment by specialists.
