Intel leads the way to safety

Article Abstract:

Intel has been addressing safety concerns for the past five years, faving the way for dramatic developments in ergonomics and equipment safety. Among its important strategies are the purchase of state-of-the-art equipments, the posting of site nurses, and top management involvement in safety. As a result, while the company expanded from 21,000 to 67,000 employees in four years, it has drastically cut down the number of OSHA-registered incidents by as much as 33%.

Bold steps to help injured workers and their employers

Article Abstract:

STEPS Industrial Rehabilitation Clinics Exec. Dir. Melanie Ellexson discusses the history of the program which began in 1986. She notes that STEPS primarily offers physical therapy to injured workers but has begun to branch out into other services. Some of its new programs include functional placement screening and preventive injury program development. Ellexson is confident that the market for STEPS's services will continue to expand.

Safety starts at home

Article Abstract:

Robert L. Strickland of Lowe's Companies Inc. maintains that the development of safety consciousness starts in the home and that the company is committed to promoting safety consciousness. Strickland is also the chairman of Lowe's Home Safety Council and the organization is geared towards making American homes safer. Strickland maintains that the key to enforcing safety standards is commitment and real involvement from all levels.
