Intravenous immunoglobulin in autoimmune neuromuscular diseases

Article Abstract:

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) enhances immune homeostasis by modulating expression and function of Fc receptors, interfering with activation of complement and production of cytokines, providing anti-idiotypic antibodies, and affecting the activation and effector functions of T and B cells. The current status of the treatment of autoimune neuromusculur diseases with IVIG, with emphasis on controlled trials is systematically reviewed.

The challenges of whole-genome approaches to common diseases

Article Abstract:

The technical challenges to overcome the need to identify susceptibility genes that can be used to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of common diseases is discussed. The next step will be to address challenges relating to variable selection and biological interpretation.

The clinical relevance of genomic variation

Article Abstract:

The study of individual genomic variation has been discussed with respect to the recent sequencing of the human genome. This study involves the identification and evaluation of (SNPs), which are sites of variability in the nucleotide sequence of human genome.
