Going through the roof

Article Abstract:

UK Health Secretary Alan Milburn has released a list of the first nurse consultant posts to be funded within the National Health Service. In the first wave of appointments, 141 nurses will achieve consultant status, receiving a salary of between 27,460 pounds sterling and 42,010 pounds sterling a year. It is intended that the creation of nurse consultant posts will enhance the career prospects of nurses who wish to remain in clinical practice. Those seeking a nurse consultant post will have to demonstrate ability in education, training and development; expert practice; practice and service development, research and evaluation; and professional leadership and consultancy.

It's a perfect combination. The Philippines, a country that trains more nurses than it actually needs, supplying the UK, an island with a severe nursing shortage

Article Abstract:

Filipino nurses working in the UK face many challenges, including supporting families in the Philippines and adjusting to a new culture and language. Although the NHS highly approves of the Filipino nurses, some people are criticizing the recruitment of foreigners as a mere stop-gap solution for a serious staffing crisis.
