Let's talk about sex

Article Abstract:

The outreach projects of the Wirral Brook Advisory Centre, England, offer education on sex and sexual-health. The aim of the projects is to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies. Staff at the centre believe that an important part of project development is understanding the young people involved, from their cultural environment to the limitations on their ability to visit a centre. One project, which is situated in a shopping area on a housing estate, incorporates a scheme to train and use young people as peer educators. Another mobile unit uses arts media to explore sexuality.

Over-the-counter emergency contraception will not significantly reduce unwanted teenage pregnancies and dangerous sexual practices in the UK. It is vital that professionals working with young people take a collaborative approach, giving them advice that emphasizes life skills.
