Limited clinical utility of midtrimester fetal morphometric percentile rankings in screening for birth weight abnormalities

Article Abstract:

Abdominal measurements made from midterm fetal ultrasound scans do not seem to be useful in predicting premature birth risk or birth weight complications. Statistical analyses were performed on abdominal measurements from 1,589 ultrasound scans taken at a mean of 19.2 weeks of pregnancy. There was a trend between large and small abdominal measurements and large and small weights at birth, respectively. However, calculated percentile rankings could not be consistently used to predict birth weight or premature birth.

Quality of intrapartum cardiotocography in twin deliveries

Article Abstract:

Intrapartum fetal heart rate (FHR) recordings in twins were compared for fetal signal loss during both stages of labor to assess the quality of these recordings by the method of external ultrasound or directly via a scalp electrode. It was found that intrapartum FHR monitoring via ultrasound provides far poorer quality FHR signals than the direct mode.

Intertwin time interval: How it affects the immediate neonatal outcome of the second twin

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to define factors that influence the immediate neonatal outcome of the second twin and to assess whether a valid cutoff time is evident. The result confirmed that longer intertwin birth time is associated with a continuous decline in umbilical cord pH.
