Major study looks at nurses' back pain

Article Abstract:

The European Commission is funding a three-year research project which will investigate back pain in nurses. Research will focus on up to 4,000 nurses and 1,000 physiotherapists in Merseyside. Unison has welcomed the fact that the research is focusing on nurses, and has requested particular attention to be given to the difference in back injury rates between different grades. At present, back injuries cost the NHS 1 million pounds sterling a week, according to the RCN.

Back to nature

Article Abstract:

There seems to be growing approval in the UK for the use of cannabis to relieve pain and stress. Indeed, even the British Medical Association has called for the decriminalization of cannabis for therapeutic purposes. Research indicates that cannabis is more effective than nabilone, its chemical copy, in relieving the symptoms of people who suffer from painful conditions such as multiple sclerosis. It is also less expensive than nabilone and other analgesics.
