Article Abstract:

Ethical guidelines on corporate sponsorship within the National Health Service are necessary. United Kingdom Central Council guidelines give little practical help. Sponsorship may compromise nurses' impartiality and reliance on commercially-sponsored jobs may threaten independence. Royal College of Nursing guidelines emphasise the importance of checking a sponsor's integrity and establishing conditions of acceptance. Monitoring of services is essential.
