Measuring capillary refill time

Article Abstract:

Measuring capillary refill time (CRT) is an important factor for the assessment of circulation. It provides an indication to the adequacy of tissue perfusion. If the CRT is prolonged, it could indicate the presence of circulatory shock, which is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Postural hypotension: symptoms and management

Article Abstract:

The incidence of postural hypotension rises with age. It is found as a complication of several diseases, including diabetes. Symptoms include dizziness, syncope, low backache and lethargy. Care should be taken to ensure that any changes in position are made slowly.

Measuring peak expiratory flow

A step-by-step description of the measurement of peak expiratory flow in a patient is presented. The number of measurements which should be taken in a day and the establishment of a predicted reading are discussed.
