Industry, FDA warm to "adaptive" trials

Article Abstract:

Pharmaceutical companies and the Food and Drug Administration are considering the use of adaptive clinical trials in which data are analyzed on an interim basis while the studies are in progress, and this emerging data is used to dictate the future course of the trial as a way to speed new drugs to market. These adaptive trials have also attracted criticism that their results are more difficult to interpret and more vulnerable to unblinding and bias.
