Medicare reform law under fire as cost estimates mount

Article Abstract:

The Bush administration has come under fire after a Medicare actuary revealed that he was forbidden from revealing to the Congress the actual cost estimates of the Bush administration's new Medicare reform legislation, signed into law in December. The Medicare plan would cost between $500 billion and $600 billion over 10 years, a sharp increase from the figure given to the Congress.

Court to decide if patients can sue HMOs for denial of care

Article Abstract:

Attorneys for HMO's were agreeing to the fact that it made no sense for patients to sue their HMOs, as it would only drive up health care costs. Although president George W. Bush supported this Texas law, the governor of the state clearly took the side of the insurance industry.

Successful 'truth' anti-smoking campaign in funding jeopardy

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Citizen's Commission to Protect the Truth would use lot of tactics to convince tobacco companies to finance the public education fund. Truth's greatest victory has been the significant reduction in youth smoking.
