Multiple sclerosis: clues to diagnosis and recommended management

Article Abstract:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) causes the myelin sheath around nerve fibers to deteriorate, leading to gradual loss of control over muscles and the collapse of the central nervous system. This disorder often appears in adults between the ages of 20 and 40, and affects nearly twice as many women as men. The cause for MS is not known and there is no cure, although supportive treatment and some drugs can ease disabling symptoms.

Rapid sequence intubation

Article Abstract:

Introducing an endotracheal tube into the conscious patient is best accomplished through the technique known as rapid sequence intubation (RSI). This technique requires swiftly administering a drug sequence to induce temporary sedation and paralysis. Health care providers who accurately assess the patient's airway and are aware of potential complications in this procedure will successfully accomplish RSI.
