The training techniques and objectives of six Olympic athletes are presented. The athletes and their sports are Dave Johnson, decathlon and track and field; Sheila Hudson, track and field and triple jump; Tom Gough, weightlifting; C.J. Hunter, shot put and track and field; Chris Duplanty, water polo; and Zeke Jones, wrestling.

Baseball players Mark McGwire, Jeff Bagwell, Juan Gonzalez, Glenallen Hill and Alex Rodriguez believe that their success is attributable to proper weight training, nutrition and cardiovascular conditioning. The athletes, who disregarded baseball adages and indolences, focused on weight training.
