Supernurses are go

Article Abstract:

A new level of nurse, nurse consultants, will begin work in the first week of April 2000 in the UK, earning as much as 42,000 pounds sterling annually. Around 150 positions have been created as part of a move to enhance the role of nursing in medicine. Sectors covered range from criminal justice liaison, through midwifery, to geriatric care.

Primary Care Groups (PCGs), set up by the UK government to improve healthcare, are not valued by UK nurses. According to a survey of nurses, the new groups have not achieved much, and nurses do not feel included in healthcare improvement plans. There would appear to be communication problems.

NHS nursing in the 1960s

The vast changes that have taken place over the past 60 years since the 1950s of the NHS that have improved the working conditions and facilities provided to nurses are put forth.
