Omega-3 fatty acids and decidual cell prostaglandin production in response to the inflammatory cytokine IL-1[beta]

Article Abstract:

A study to evaluate the effect of omega-3 fatty acids on preincubating decidual cells on prostanoid responses to interleukin-1[beta] (IL-1[beta] is illustrated. It is concluded that omega-3 fatty acids prolonged gestational length as it reduces IL-1[beta] stimulated prostaglandin production accompanied by reduction in microsomal prostaglandin E synthase (mPGES)-1 and -2 expression.

Association of maternal IL-1 receptor antagonist intron 2 gene polymorphism and preterm birth

Article Abstract:

A case-control study is undertaken to determine the association of spontaneous preterm birth (PTB) with interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RN) intron 2, allele 2 polymorphism. The results have shown that maternal carriage of at least 1 copy of the IL-1RN allele 2 appears to be associated with increased risk of preterm birth.

Prolylcarboxypeptidase gene, chronic hypertension, and risk of preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratios of risk for preeclampsia associated with each gene polymorphism and its joints association with chronic hypertension. Results reveals that no association is found in four polymorphisms in angiotensinogen and angiotensin- converting enzyme.
