Overview of household budget surveys in 18 European countries

Article Abstract:

The 'Information regarding the Household Budget Surveys' questionnaire distributed by the Dept of Nutrition and Biochemistry, Athens School of Public Health to gather data to assess the degree to which household budget surveys in European countries differed. Responses received were from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, UK, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Sweden.

Comparability of food availability data in household budget surveys in European Community countries

Article Abstract:

Household budget surveys (HHBS) conducted in the different European Community countries use various methods ingathering information to produce country-specific data that are often incompatible with one another. The development of Eurocode 2 provides these countries with a standard code for food items that can be used in conjunction with HHBSs as the initial step towards harmonizing nutrition survey data.

Monitoring food intake in Europe: a food data bank based on household budget surveys

Article Abstract:

Houshold budget surveys in Europe serve to provide information for the formation of a food database. Cross-sectional analysis of nutritional habits of different population groups facilitates the identification of groups at risk from particular diseases and prescribe preventive measures through adequate nutritional guidance. However, formulation of the database becomes difficult because of its size.
