Pa. insurance department to review merger

Article Abstract:

The Pennsylvania insurance department will review whether physicians have a 'direct interest' in the merger of Pennsylvania Blue Shield and Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania. The merger of the two Blues occurred in 1996, and the consolidated company is now called Highmark Inc. The review by the insurance department could give physicians a platform to voice their opposition to the merger.
