The representation of various groups with regard to race, ethnicity, age, and sex in the cancer trial, despite its diversity in the participants are discussed. The representation of racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, and women in cancer trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute are characterized.

An effort to translate advances in molecular biology , bioinformatics and computing into tools that may improve the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of patients with cancer is discussed.
