Persistent anti-gag, -nef, and -rev IgM levels as markers of the impaired functions of CD4(super +) T-helper lymphocytes during SIVmac251 infection of cynomolgus macaques

Article Abstract:

The antigen-specific immunoglobulin (Ig)M, IgG, and IgA humoral responses during the first 200 days of simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIV)mac251 infection in cynomolgus macaques are tested for correlation with the CD4(super +) T-cell related hematologic parameters. Strong correlations were observed between the preinfection CD4(super +) T-cell count and the parameters measured, suggesting the importance of preinfection immune status as a determinant of disease progression.

Infection with HIV Type 1 Group M Non-B subtypes in individuals living in New York City

Article Abstract:

About 97 subjects enrolled in the study of HIV-1-seropositive from three clinics in New York city were selected based on having risk factors for infection with HIV-1 non-B subtypes from October 1999 through April 2003, from which 91 (94%) were emigrated from a non-European country, while 6 were native Unites States citizens. 53 of the 97 plasma tested had successfully determined subtypes, whereas subtypes in 2 plasma samples were unclassifiable.

Plasma ascorbate deficiency is associated with impaired reduction of sulfamethoxazole-nitroso in HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The role of ascorbate deficiency in HIV infection in the defective detoxification of sulfamethoxazole-nitroso, the metabolite that mediates sulfonamide hypersensitivity reactions, is determined. The results show that ascorbate deficiency, independent of thiol status, is an important determinant of impaired drug detoxification in HIV infection.
