Policy imperatives for nursing in an era of health care restructuring

Article Abstract:

The nursing profession must retain the unity and commitment to influencing health care policy that it gained during the national health care reform debate and work to face the new health policy challenges to nursing. The health care environment changed with the defeat of comprehensive health care reform. Current issues include restructuring in the health care industry, protection of safety and quality, accountability, consumer education and effective utilization of nurses.
