Posaconazole or fluconazole for prophylaxis in severe graft-versus-host disease

Article Abstract:

An international randomized trial compared oral posaconazole with oral fluconazole for prophylaxis against invasive fungal infections in patients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) receiving immunosuppressive therapy. Results indicated that posaconazole was similar to fluconazole for prophylaxis against fungal infections, but was superior in preventing invasive aspergillosis and reducing the rate of deaths related to fungal infections.

Prophylaxis for thromboembolism in hospitalized medical patients

A 62-year-old man is admitted to a hospital with fever, cough, and dyspnea, whose further testing offers a diagnosis of venous thromboembolism.
